Our context for learning this term is:

'Moving Mayhem'

This is a context inspired by the pupils, which encompasses flight, robots and birds.

So far, we have studied flight and birds and we are just starting to look at robots and The Iron Man, a book by Ted Hughes.

All the pupils had chance to share their ideas after our Immersion Day in January and these have formed he basis of our planning this term.

It was wonderful to see hear what the children wanted to learn about and how much they had considered the context.

Our Pupil Voice Planning Sheet

We went on a trip to the International birds of Prey Centre in Newent,

At the International Birds of Prey Centre

We even investigated how far we could get a snowball to fly!

Finding out how far we can fly a snowball!

Last week we celebrated our Eisteddfod. The standard of models and cookery and the effort that all the children had put in was outstanding. Below are some lovely examples of our entries.

Diolch yn fawr a llongyfarchiadau!

These contexts willfeature later in the year:

'Disaster Zone.'

This project has a geography focus and teaches children about the causes and impact of natural disasters involving water, flooding and erosion and the environmental factors which cause them. At the heart of this project children write reports using factual data with global dimension. In addition children develop skills to write leaflets and present findings from tests and investigations using scientific and geographical language. Children apply their skills and understanding by considering ways in which they could help prevent the future dangers caused by flooding, erosion and environmental damage.

In this project the children will learn:

How to use geographical field work skills;

How to use data and draw conclusions from it;

How to make maps and plans and use geographical resources;

About the environmental impact of global warming;

How to write reports and a range of other information texts;

How to use multimedia to create film.
