The Role of the RotaKids

At Whitchurch Primary School, our RotaKids are made up of eleven Year 6 children.  We meet regularly with a local member of the Rotary Club.  Our aim is to raise money for worthy causes and make a difference through annual International, Local and Community projects.

The RotaKids decide the focus of the projects each academic year, raising awareness and organising fundraising events.

Below are the projects we have been working on and will work on throughout the academic year.

RotaKids Action Plan

Community Project (Summer Term)

What an incredible response to the RotaKids' Sponsored Read in aid of Guide Dogs Cymru. We all relaxed with a good book...and raised a fantastic total of £3828.70!

The RotaKids hosted a very special assembly to launch the term's Community Project, raising funds for Guide Dogs Cymru, the chosen charity of Cardiff Lord Mayor Graham Hinchey. The Lord Mayor introduced several guide dogs and their owners to the children, and urged everyone to take part in the RotaKids Sponsored Read on 30th June.

Two of the RotaKIds, April and Bethan, visited the Lord Mayor's Mansion House with Mr. Clarke and Miss Butler. They enjoyed a tour of the building and met the Lord Mayor, together with the staff and pupils of other schools. This is all in aid of the upcoming charity work the RotaKids will be carrying out to raise money for Guide Dogs Cymru.

For our Local Project, the RotaKids carried out a Pupil Voice survey to find out what pupils at Whitchurch Primary School would like to raise money for. The survey concluded that pupils would like new sports equipment, so the RotaKids decided to organise and run stalls at the Easter disco in order to raise money. They made £123.50 and will use this money to buy new goalposts for our astroturf.

Some of the Whitchurch Primary RotaKids met with staff and pupils of Bumatofu Primary School in Uganda via a Teams link. They thanked the RotaKids for the money raised at the Christmas Fair, which had been used to help pay for solar panels, so that they now have a light in each classroom, together with pencils, pens, exercise books and other classroom supplies for their school..

Three of our RotaKids attended the Rotary Club Cardiff Breakfast, and April, this year's RotaKids President, gave a presentation to the meeting about their work this term.

Our RotaKids met with representatives from Cardiff Rotary and PONT (Partnership Overseas Networking Trust) and presented a cheque for £419.95, to be donated to Bumatofu School in Uganda.

Bendigedig to the Whitchurch Primary RotaKids who held fundraising stalls at the Christmas Fair, selling unwanted toys which had been donated by pupils and making a Christmas cake for children to 'guess the weight' of. They raised a fantastic total of £414.95!
