Year 6
Welcome to our Year 6 page!
This year our Year 6 classes are taught by Mrs Matheson, Mr Ridout, Miss Butler, and Mrs Murphy, also supported by Mrs Boorman, Mrs Powers, Mr Doust and Mrs Watkins.
During the Autumn term, our central idea is “War and Peace”, as we explore the question:
“Does resolving conflict lead to a better quality of life?”. The children will investigate different wars throughout history and consider how human lives have been affected by conflict. They will also study a range of leaders - past and present - exploring the qualities that make an effective leader. In Literacy, the children will link their learning by writing a diary entry from the perspective of a child during World War Two, helping them to empathise with and understand life in that period.
In the Spring term, our central idea this term has a scientific focus on accessing, sharing, and protecting resources, with particular attention to sources of energy. The children will explore how humans use and conserve the world’s resources, developing an understanding of sustainability and innovation in science and technology.
During the Summer Term, we’ll unleash our creativity as we prepare for our end-of-year show, exploring the central idea: “Does the media have the power to influence thinking and behaviour?”. Alongside rehearsals and performances, the children will enjoy their residential trip to Llangrannog, a highlight of the Year 6 experience! We’ll also spend time on transition activities to help everyone feel confident and ready for the exciting move to high school.
A quick reminder that PE takes place every Monday, and children should come to school wearing their PE kit.
We can’t wait to share our Year 6 learning journey with you!
