ESTYN REPORT 2024

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am writing to share details of the recent Estyn Inspection, which took place at Whitchurch Primary on                22 – 24th April 2024. We were delighted that the Estyn team believe that Whitchurch Primary is a thriving learning community where pupils feel safe and valued.

As the Headteacher, I am incredibly proud of all pupils and staff and it is wonderful to see the work that has gone on since the previous Estyn, nine years ago, and in providing such a strong and caring ethos. The staff, student and parent surveys showed the support for the school, which was a real strength during this inspection.

The Inspection team were impressed by what they saw, noting that pupils and staff thrive in the school’s inclusive ethos where pupils develop as creative, independent thinkers during their time at the school.  Staff are supportive role models, and as a result, pupils are respectful of adults and their peers, showing high levels of care, kindness and consideration to those around them.

The report acknowledges that all pupils, including those with additional needs, ‘benefit from an ambitious curriculum’ and that teachers not only have good subject knowledge, but also carefully consider the progress that pupils have made and use this thoughtfully to plan future lessons and activities and adapt their approach.

Estyn reinforced our belief that pupils across all year groups receive a good quality of teaching and, as a resultstaff provide worthwhile opportunities for pupils to be curious, explore the world around them and to carry out their own inquiries. This work is rooted in the school’s curriculum and begins from an early age, when the youngest pupils enjoy exploring the school’s outdoor classroom and wider learning environment.

I am very proud that Estyn has recognised the strong relationships between staff and pupils and the extra mile staff go to support pupils’ health and well-being, as well as supporting them to make the right choices for their future education.

I truly believe that this Estyn report shows how much progress has been made; both pupils and staff, and you as the wider community of parents and carers, should be rightly proud of what we have achieved together.

Jonathan Morgan, our Chair of Governors, in offering his congratulations, stated that:

“The governors are very proud of the dedication the team at Whitchurch show every day to improve the lives of the pupils in the school and this Estyn report is a fantastic acknowledgement of the impact of this hard work.”

I look forward to working with staff, pupils, parents and governors to achieve the next steps in our journey. Many thanks for your continued support; as ever we will continue to work hard to take the school forward.

Cofion cynnes,

Ann Griffin

Headteacher
